| This gig take place in the center
of Brussels, Belgium, in a splendid house of gardenery . There were a lot of band and artists on this first day of the festival: "Les nuits Botaniques" among them Beth and Terry Callier... They met each other about 18'30 and went off for a drink. Beth was very pleased to see that artist she loves and respects, she looked for un instant like a child seeing Santa Claus ( yes I know this could seems a little childish but you should have seen that face !...). As they didn't rehearsed any song together (well, they might have done it but we haven't heard anything) we thought that they couldn't sing together... Still as we were waiting in the heat of the night, the dark night that preceeds the incantations we were in for, Terry the sorcerer begun the vocals of "Keep your heart right"...and begun to spread his peace and love trought his magical voice and music to the audience... About 45-60 minutes later the stage went back to light and roadies cleared the staged and established the new church for our new praises...Some of us went for a beer or two ( hey dudes we're in Belgium !)...And then... "Bonjour Belgium ! " The diva enters and gosh she is just so beautiful tonight!!! You can't imagine, I mean, yes, you sure can imagine how beautiful she is naturally well, multiply it by ten ! She wore a splendid black ( grey ?) dress and beautifull assorted shoes that went up to her knees. Her voice was perfect that night again, Ted balanced himself to his guitar sound as for Ali and his bass. Will Blanchard looked like a giant on a tiny litlle drum set, he wore...well you know....that hair cut of his... Sean Read as always seemed to do three things at the same time ( sure he was actually doing three things at the same time !) looking the diva, playing his part, singing his part, playing the effects, looking at this little computer on the keyboards... Howard Gaut is on the violons and on the percussions things and Oliver is on the Cello. Beth soon tried two jokes one to another... A man goes to a doctor wearing only cling wrap underwear, Doctor says : " I can clearly see your nuts"... and... A man goes to a chemist and he said to the pharmacist do you have cotton ear balls? and the pharmacist replies: "What do you think I am ? I'm a chemist not a fucking Teddy Bear !" She then introduced the band..." On my right...On my left....behind me...and she then went for this: " And on my feet a new pair of shoes that are killing me, K-I-L-L-I-N-G M-E !!! " Still what a smile when she is in pain... A few songs later she joked again with this one... " A man goes into a bar and he is with a girafe. He orders himself a pint of Belgium Lager, Honey Lager...Hum...and the girafe Tequila. He sat and enjoy his beer and girafe knocking back his tequila and he orders another round and Tequila goes straight back in the throat of the girafe, he orders another round, for the girafe mainly, and the girafe knocks it back and he is a little bit drunk now and then the man decides it's time to pay up and leave the bar. And as he pays the bar-man the girafe falls over, the man begins to leave " Well thank you very much" and the bar- man says: " Do you gonna leave that lion here because it's not a lion it's a girafe"... The audience tried to laugh and Beth just said her by now so well-known..." Well, nevermind" which she will used endlessy unless she tried others jokes, but something would then missed to her shows right? For the encore our dream came true, Beth said compliments about an artist which inspired her and we knew that it was time for a duet with Terry Callier... They sung " Dolphins" together and together they danced...Beth was charmed, Terry very pleased to be with her on stage... Terry left and the band begun to played " Pass in time" and yes, some of us, including me, thought that Terry would stay for that one , he didn't come...Beth let the band played three times the intro of the song and then said to us, " You know, one of the funny things about olds songs is that they can be played and played again and again and we always like the way they sound....Can somebody give me the first line?..." Sean Read gave her the verse and she begun to sing. Very emotionnal. One last thing I want to say to you Beth... Beth, you are FORMIDABLE!!! |
