Ted Barnes is releasing his debut album on Infectious Records (home to ASH and Seafood) and Nigel Adams from his label has emailed me and told me Beth Orton will be featured on his album. Also there will be a huge gig at Royal Albert Hall, London next March 31st 2003. Tickets can be purchased exclusively at www.gigsandtours.com on October 28 2002 and then after which all the usual outlets.

october 23 > UPDATE: Vanity Fair
I have just scanned the article of Vanity Fair. You can view it here. It's just a small article Beth Orton shared with 3 other folk singers, Dan Zane, Dar Williams and David Johansen.

october 23 > Beth @Awards
Beth Orton was at the Q Awards presented on October 21. She was also a presenter for an award for Echo and The Bunnymen. She also performed a live version of Concrete Sky. Beth Orton was nominated for an award for Best Album at this year's Q Awards which she lost to Coldplay's A Rush of Blood To The Head. Coldplay won this same award 2 years ago with Parachutes. For more information on the Q Awards, please go to their official site.

It seems Beth Orton is featured inside the latest issue of Vanity Fair, the music issue, alongside some folk singers.

Anywhere single and DVD has been pushed back to Oct 28 2002 release, one week later from its original release date.

october 21 > New Concrete Sky promo
A new Concrete Sky promo has been spotted on eBay. I do not know where the it is from. Probably from Canada since US and UK already each have their own promos.

october 20 > Vote For Somebody's Pages
Jeremy Bromley's Somebody's Pages is in the running for the Dotmusic's IMA People Choice Award as well. Vote for him at:

www.dotmusic.com/specials/ima2002/vote_peoples_choice.asp?SiteID=6015

And if you haven't vote me for me (hmmph!!), please do it at:

www.dotmusic.com/specials/ima2002/vote_peoples_choice.asp?SiteID=5888

We figure if any one of our site comes up tops, Beth might get some publicity. It's definitely not for vanity reasons!

october 19 > Anywhere single artwork
Just found the artwork for Anywhere single on hmv.com!! The theme of the artwork is red showing the left eye of Beth. Looks typical like a dance single artwork.

Also hmv.com listed the track listing of Anywhere single as:
1. Anywhere - Two Lone Swordsmen Remix
2. Anywhere - Adrian Sherwood's Off Me Rocker Version
3. Anywhere - Album Version

But I am thinking they messed up on the track listing as the catalogue number shows HVN125CD which we all know do not have the Adrian Sherwood's Off Me Rocker Version but Beautiful World. Also the actual CD single is an enchanced CD with the video for Anywhere.

Meanwhile on hmv.co.uk, the listing for Daybreaker Special Edition has been taken off. So I guess EMI is not releasing any special edition after all.

october 19 > Anywhere promo giveaway ?
Apparently eil.com is listing a Anywhere 1 track promo given to people who bought the Daybreaker album in the US. The promo (as listed) comes in a cardboard sleeve. The track is the Two Lone Swordsmen Remix. Can anyone confirm this?

october 18 > Record Collector out on 27th Oct
Beth Orton will be featured in the upcoming edition of Record Collector. Beth Orton will have a 9 page article in it including listing of some of her important releases. The magazine should hit the stands around 27th October in UK so keep a look out for it.

october 17 > Vote For Beth-lehem
If you like what I have been putting out for you guys, please vote for me at the annual Dotmusic' IMA for People Choice's Award. Beth-lehem took part in 1999 and was ranked #66 out of the 944 fansites involved.

Thank you!

october 17 > Q Awards: Vote For Beth!
Beth Orton is up for the Q Awards 2002. She is being nominated for Best Album for her work on Daybreaker. She is also the only solo artist nominated in this category. The other 4 nominees are, Coldplay, The Vines, Doves and Red Hot Chili Pepper.

Below is the press release:

'SOCKS AND THE CITY'

Fancy slipping into Sarah Jessica Parker's bed socks? Pulling on
Tony Adams' football socks? Entertaining someone in Robbie Williams's stage socks? Why not, and raise vital funds for homeless people at the same time?

Funky new west London club, Cherry Jam, is hosting a special auction cantered around Sex and the City, to raise awareness and money for homeless charities Centrepoint and Holy Cross Crisis Centre. The event will take place on Tuesday 29th October at Cherry Jam. And to entice bidders to give generously, the auction is for celebrity socks!

WHY?

'Socks And The City' was dreamed up by Cherry Jam co-owner Ben Watt (Everything But The Girl/Lazy Dog). Ben says: "A friend of mine works for a homeless charity in Kings Cross. She said people always donate clothes and shoes, but strangely never socks. Many of the people they help arrive sockless and leave sockless. It just got me thinking." Alan Grant, Ben's partner in Cherry Jam, staged a Successful charity auction of celebrity sneakers at the Notting Hill Arts Club. Celebrity socks seemed like a great follow-up.

WHO?

Socks have flooded in from the following celebrities Sarah Jessica Parker, Robbie Williams, The Rolling Stones, Tony Adams, Sade, Robert Lindsay, Jeremy Paxman, Anna Friel, David Gower, Hugh Laurie, Joanna Lumley. We also have socks en route from amongst others, U2, George Michael, Bruce Springsteen, Will Young, Juergen Teller, Chrissie Hynde and Kylie Minogue.

THE EVENT

Admission to the event will be a suggested cash donation of £10 and a pair of socks. A leading London auction house will host the event. Ben Watt and his Lazy Dog DJ partner Jay Hannan will provide the music and a dance floor party afterwards. There will even be a celebrity compere. Lots will range from the easily affordable upwards. Each pair of celebrity socks will feature a certificate of authenticity from the owner plus a brief handwritten sock history ... was Jeremy Paxman really wearing those socks when he interviewed Tony Blair? Did that sock really stop Sade from having six kids?!

october 09 > Beth Orton might played in Australia
Australian fans take note, Beth Orton might be playing in Australia in Februray at Melbourne International Music and Blues Festival. The three-day event at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from February 7 may also include B.B. King, Wilson Pickett and Beth Orton.

Below is an article taken from The Age
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/10/07/1033538896310.html:

Summer in the city with Dylan, McCartney
October 08 2002
By Patrick Donovan
Music Writer

Summer in Melbourne will rock. As well the Rolling Stones, Brian Wilson and Bruce Springsteen, musical visitors will include Sir Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.

For the first time in Melbourne since 1993 when 90,000 fans saw him play two nights at the MCG, McCartney will revive Beatlemania, drawing on his impressive songbook.

Promoter Paul Dainty and Victorian Major Events Corporation head Steve Vizard are expected to announce shows at Telstra Dome on November 22 and 23 in a satellite link from McCartney's show in St Louis on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, the organisers of the Melbourne International Music and Blues Festival are expected to announce that Bob Dylan will headline the inaugural festival. The three-day event at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from February 7 may also include B.B. King, Wilson Pickett and Beth Orton.

It will coincide with the music industry conference, Australian Music Week, which will shift from Sydney, the first time a major music conference and festival have been held in the heart of an Australian capital city.

The tour by former Beach Boy Brian Wilson is expected to go ahead despite the arrest of its promoter over a $19 million fraud. Victorian Arts Centre corporate relations manager Jeremy Vincent said he expected a well-known Australian promoter to take over the tour this week.

Yet to be confirmed is a tour by Kiss with an orchestra in Kiss make-up, and the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival bringing its show down from Byron Bay to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl at Easter.

While the low Australian dollar has not stemmed the tide of international tours, the tickets will come at a price, with most basic seats selling for about $100.

At his recent series of two-and-a-half-hour concerts in the US, McCartney has played solo material as well as hits by the Beatles and Wings.

The enduring popularity of the Beatles was confirmed when an album of their number one hits topped the charts in 2000.

Older fans will be reliving youthful memories, but there are new generations of fans who have discovered the music and are trying to rev up the crowds.

"I don't understand how someone can sit through Back in the USSR ... but if they want to sit and not rock, that's their problem," said one fan writing on the message board on McCartney's official website, www.paulmccartney.com.

"I do think Paul interacts more when the audience is rocking with him. However, no one told me to sit down and I was one happy Paulie fan."

october 08 > Nottingham show might be taped
Posted by Jeremy Bromley

According to Jeremy, Oct 9th Nottingham show at Royal Concert Hall might be taped by EMI for use for a forthcoming webcast.

october 08 > Beth Orton to be featured on Record Collector
Posted by Jeremy Bromley

Beth Orton will be featured in the upcoming issue of Record Collector. Apparantly, there will be a 9 page article on her and her releases. Record Collector has enlisted the help of Jeremy Bromley from Somebody's Pages in collecting information on her releases and a list of 85 items has been collected.

october 07 > Beth Orton on BBC Radio 2
Posted by James Gibbon

This week from Monday to Friday, Beth is the guest on BBC Radio Two's "The Tracks Of My Years".  This is a snippet on the Ken Bruce Show in which the guest selects two pieces of music from the soundtrack of his or her life and briefly explains the
significance.

Beth's choices today (sorry for the late notice but I didn't know she was on until I heard it) were Joni Mitchell's 'Blue' and the Talking Heads' 'Psycho Killer'.  The former was something she used to listen to in her 'stinky flat' that she scared with scary
blokes who would, in some cases, never emerge from their bedrooms, and in discussing the latter, she lamented the passing of the eccentric from popular music, saying that today, the aim of musicians was to accrue the maximum amount of cash by being as normal as possible.

You can hear Tracks Of My Years online on R2's website at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/. Beth is on all this week, Tues to Fri, 11:45-ish AM BST (1045 GMT). It's a short programme, basically just two tracks and a two or three-minute snippet of interview.

It's not archived, unfortunately, so you won't be able to hear today's programme.

Beth Orton's Tracks Of My Years
Monday
Blue - Joni Mitchell
Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
Tuesday
Pull Up To The Bumper - Grace Jones
Don't Let It Bring You Down - Neil Young
Wednesday
Fly Me To The Moon - Astrud Gilberto
Oh You Pretty Things - David Bowie
Thursday
As Tears Go By - Marianne Faithfull
Man With The Child In His Eyes - Kate Bush
Friday
A Lucky Guy - Rickie Lee Jones
Catch A Falling Star - Francoise Hardy

october 05 > Billboard 200 late update WEEK 6
As usual this update is late (I need to wait for my local Borders to bring in the magazine so that I can browse it for free...), Daybreaker moves down from #137 to #151 in its 6th week on the chart.

october 05 > Anywhere releases confirmed
Thanks to Jeremy, he has spoken to Pru from Rough Trade Management and it seems it is official that we only get 1 CD single and a DVD for Anywhere. Aparently it was down to the marketing peoples at EMI who thought there was a better chance of chart stuff with just the one CD...

october 04 > Anywhere: No More 2CD set?

october 02 > Rollingstone: Ryan mentions Beth
Posted by Tom Latchford

On Rollingstone (Oct 17 2002), there is a one page question and answer with Ryan Adams. He talks about Beth at one point and this is what it says:

Rollingtstone: What song from recent years do you wish you had written?

Ryan Adams: "Sweetest Decline" by Beth Orton, 'cause she says, "Its like catching snow on your tounge," and the moment I heard that line, I fell incredibly in love, not only with her but back with myself. But I just recently started writing songs in reaction to other songs. One song I was working on last week was called "Boys," which is a reaction to "Boys" by Britney Spears. I wanted to write a song in defense of men, because we're not all players. There are romantics who don't think about panty lines and don't talk shit about women. And just because Britney can't find one doesn't mean that I'm supposed to be chastised for it. The song doesn't attack Britney or anything, it attacks this preconceived notion that men cannot be romantic intellectuals.

october 01 > New Anywhere radio promo

A new promotional CD meant for radio promo and other promotional purposes has just been released. It is housed in possibly a cardboard sleeve, can't really tell from the picture. Anyway, this item is first spotted on eBay. So collectors, if you want to purchase this item, go to eBay now.

The tracks are:
01. Anywhere - Two Lone Swordsmen Remix - Radio Edit
02. Anywhere - Album Version
